Thatched roof... always proof

Prevent early replacement
A beautiful thatched roof is literally a precious possession. A correct roof construction carried out with a good thatched roof is for many years enjoyment of living. A thatched roof must maintain at least 25-45 years unless well maintained. Imperfections which are identified and remedied in time can prevent a substantial damage. A bad design, application of incorrect under-construction, wrong application of building insulation or heat insulation method, residents behaviour and maintenance, all together determine the final life span.

We developed a survey method called the Riet Totaal Keuring (thatched roof survey) in 2003 to cover all potential threats. During the survey and in the report we can and will give expert and practical recommendation to the architect, builder, plumber and user.

Contents of a Thatched Roof Survey
This concerns a condition inspection of new and existing thatched roofs and contains the following components:

  • Complete condition inspection of the roof;
  • Workmanship of the Thatcher
  • design of the construction including the build-up method.
  • Air tightness test of the building construction;
  • The type, use and maintenance of the ventilation system
  • The aerodynamics inside and outside such as location, sun and wind shade etc.

Advantages Thatched Roof Survey:

  • The building contractor can simply repair possible mistakes / anomalies.
  • The Thatcher is protected of complaints which damage his product, but that does not originate from his activities.
  • The consumer is protected of high costs, caused by unnecessary soon ageing from sheer coverage.
  • Restricts annoying discussion concerning liability at possible damage.
